Night time swim ends in tragedy for British youngsters in Salou
21/10/2009
A young lad and a young girl, both English, drowned in the early hours of this morning after deciding to go for a swim off a beach in Salou (Tarragona) despite the high winds and inclement weather affecting the Mediterranean coast at the moment.
According to information provided by the local fire service, the two dead people were on the beach with three other youngsters, who also went in the sea for a swim, but were able to get out again on their own.
The emergency services were alerted to their disappearance at 2.15am by a member of staff at the Los Molinos hotel, where the group were spending a few days' holiday.
Firemen, police divers, police officers and a team from the maritime rescue services all went down to the beach to search for the two missing people.
In the end, the divers did not need to get involved because police officers soon found the youngsters' bodies washed up on the beach, where they'd been dragged by the current.
