The 28-year-old bride, who stands to inherit the largest empire and greatest fortune in the country – presently 30,000 million – met her husband three years ago at a horse show.
Like her father, Amancio, who founded the now-global clothing firm, Marta is said to be a master of discretion and kept very quiet about the wedding before the date, including details of who designed her dress and who arranged the catering for the ceremony, held in Anceis, near Cambra (A Coruña) in her native Galicia and attended by around 200 family members and friends.
She has finally revealed to the press that her dress, a gauze bias-cut, embroidered affair, was the creation of Spanish designer Narciso Rodríguez, and the menu – comprising typically-Galician and Asturian fare including seafood and hake – was prepared by top chefs Marcelo Tejedor and Nacho Manzano.
They married in the family's enormous manor house, a Baroque-style 17th-century rambling country estate previously owned by the Counts of Torre Penala, and also the venue chosen by Marta's father in 2001 when he married his second wife, Flora Pérez Marcote, Marta's mother.
Marta, a graduate in economics, started her training at the London offices of Inditex – the umbrella firm responsible for the cut-price clothing chains Zara, Bershka, Pull&Bear, the top-end-of-the-high-street stores Massimo Dutti and Uterqüe, plus underwear firm Oysho and interiors chain Zara Home.
She then worked in the Inditex headquarters in Paris and in parts of Asia, before joining the head office in Arteixo (A Coruña), in preparation for her eventual taking over of the family business.
Her new husband, born in Avilés (Asturias) in January 1985 and the youngest of three brothers, is currently the top-ranking national showjumper with numerous international wins under his belt.
