Princess Charlotte's Spanish-branded clothing sells out
DUCHESS of Cambridge Kate Middleton is causing children's clothes to fly off the shelves in Spain after her daughter Charlotte has been seen in certain brands and models.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte's Spanish nanny, María Turrión Borrallo, is thought to be key in the children's wardrobe choices, and a floral dress with a frilly collar from the brand M&H, bought for around €30, from the boutique Margarita Pato Cid is said to have sold out within hours of its being seen worn by Britain's youngest Royal.
The Madrid-based shop says it is working hard on replenishing stocks, but that demand is far outstripping supply.
“We're due to receive more in a couple of weeks, but thanks to the success of the photographs of Princess Charlotte wearing the dress, they are all reserved in advance,” says designer Margarita Pato Cid herself.
“We love the way Kate dresses her children for public events – in a classical, elegant and European style which we all identify with.”
The cotton dress is combined on the photograph (released by Kensington Palace and taken by the Duchess) with a cashmere cardigan and tights in a very pale pink from the exclusive boutique Amaia, owned by Basque designer Amaia Arrieta – a firm favourite with Princess Catherine of Wales and based in the up-market Chelsea Green borough of London.
“I think it's great how Kate has chosen a dress by a very small brand which nobody knows about,” Amaia Arrieta says.
“Children in Spain are always impeccably turned out and the country has an excellent reputation for its children's clothing ranges – which are traditional, but with more modern cuts, which I think is what the Duchess likes.”
The designer from San Sebastián, who creates the tights and socks worn by Princess Charlotte and Prince George, believes nanny María Turrión 'knows Kate's tastes very well' and that the fact the shops in question are tiny and barely-known in London means maximum discretion is guaranteed.
