MOTORCYCLING race rider Enric Saurí has been killed in a crash at the Catalunya 24-Hour Endurance at the Montmeló Circuit.
Saurí was seen veering off the track at the first bend and hitting the crash barriers with what has been described as a 'violent impact'.
His injuries were said to be 'critical' as a result, and he was taken to Granollers General Hospital, already intubated inside the ambulance.
But he died before he reached the hospital.
The Montmeló Circuit organisers say the podium ceremony for the winners of the Catalunya 24-Hour will include a minute's silence and none of the usual cava, as a tribute to the late race rider.
