Oskar Proy, 18, is a descendent of Asturian migrants and sang Asturias, patria querida ('Asturias, beloved country') in Spanish, rather than in English or in the original regional language, bable or asturiano.
Judges Delta Goodrem, Boy George, Kelly Rowland and Joe Jonas were blown away by Oskar's performance – in fact, Joe Jonas pressed the buzzer just 20 seconds after he started singing.
He was swiftly followed by ex-Neighbours star Delta – who shot to fame as a singer in 2003 aged 17 and, two years later, successfully battled Hodgkins' Lymphoma and returned to the music scene fully recovered.
Oskar said the Asturias regional anthem, which he sang and played on Spanish guitar, was his choice of song for the 'blind auditions' as a tribute to his grandmother, who is originally from the northern coastal region.
The video has gone viral both in his native Australia and in his grandmother's homeland.
