Jorge Pérez Díez, 35, married with two children, was just another anonymous military-trained police and traffic officer in Aguilar de Campoo (Palencia province, Castilla y León) until April when the force used his picture in a tweet.
Without naming him, the account @guardiacivil posted Jorge's photo in full police combat gear with the caption: “Even if you see us in uniform on the outside, on the inside we're no different to you. We work for your freedom and safety. If you need us, call 062.”
In the last month and a half, the tweet has attracted 12,217 likes, 4,719 comments and 2,237 retweets – most of them enthusing about how 'sexy' he was.
And in a curious flip-side to the story of Jeremy Meeks – the USA's 'sexiest fugitive' whose 'wanted' picture attracted thousands of compliments, a modelling contract and a wedding to the heiress of the Top Shop empire – Jorge is the Spanish law enforcer-turned-model to the United States criminal version.
Jorge's tweet attracted the attention of the prestigious modelling agency Sight, in Barcelona, and the Guardia Civil officer has now signed up with them.
But conscious of the transient nature of modelling work and the possible initial insecurity as the agency finds him jobs, Jorge intends to carry on in the police force for the moment and pose for the camera outside of his shift hours.
CEO of Sight, Eduardo Sayas, says Jorge's photo was 'a good profile' which 'gives a positive image of the security industry' and 'would be suitable especially for Spanish clients'.
“He came here to Barcelona and didn't hesitate. He's very willing and he's a delight,” Sayas reveals.
Already next week, Jorge has two jobs – one on a catwalk, and another in a magazine.
As for his vital statistics, Jorge is 1.89 metres (6'3”) tall, very muscular with dark brown hair and a beard, lightly tanned and takes a shoe size 43 (UK size 10).
