POPULAR high-street fashion store Massimo Dutti has opened its first branch in Ibiza – one of the few districts in Spain where it was not already present.
The mid-upper end brand, famous for its demure classics, neutral tones and useful, elegant basics is, along with chic officewear chain Uterqüe, one of the two more luxury labels created by Spain's most successful business empire, Inditex.
Owned by Europe's richest man, Amancio Ortega, Inditex is renowned worldwide for its colourful and sophisticated but cut-price chain Zara, whose pieces are regularly seen being worn by the Duchess of Cambridge and by Spain's Queen Letizia.
Other Inditex brands found on almost every high street in Spain are Zara's 'younger sister', pocket-money chic Bershka; budget young fashions chain Stradivarius; cut-price streetwear and rock-chick brand Pull&Bear, underwear label Oysho, and élite interiors line Zara Home.
Massimo Dutti's first store in Ibiza has been designed like a blue-chip boutique, in a U-shape with careful lighting, minimalist furniture including leather and cane seats and a central wooden table, North African-style rugs and a polished white concrete floor to match the whitewashed walls with built-in shelves reminiscent of traditional houses on the island, according to Forbes magazine.
It is based in the heart of the historic quarter in Ibiza Town, at numbers 22 and 24 of the C/ Vara del Rey, and features men's and women's ranges.
