Guardia Civil traffic police in the centre-northern province of Burgos, Castilla y León, were carrying out routine checks on social media when they discovered the video, filmed on the driver's mobile phone on a motorway where the speed limit is 120 kilometres per hour (74.6mph), meaning he was travelling at more than double the speed permitted.
The footage was made on November 2 at 10.10 in the morning on a stretch of the A-231 in the direction of León, between Kilometre 124 and Kilometre 123.
Officers found that the vehicle in question was up for sale and, as the mileage shown on the video was much higher than it was in reality, showing the car had been 'clocked', the owner has been charged with fraud as well as dangerous driving.
His name has not been revealed, but he is said to be aged 29 and resident in the northern coastal region of Cantabria.
The car (pictured) has been impounded.
