A GIRL born in Catalunya and a boy in Extremadura are the first babies of 2018, both having come into the world at exactly the same time and less than a minute after midnight.
Raisa weighed 2.79 kilos (6lb 2.4oz) when she was born in Barcelona's Hospital del Mar, and Dylan Sánchez was three kilos (6lb 10oz) when he drew his first breath at the Virgen del Puerto hospital in Cáceres.
The first baby in the Greater Madrid region was Darek, weighing 3.68 kilos (8lb 2oz) just a few minutes after midnight at the Gregorio Marañón hospita., and the first in Murcia is Carmen María, born at 00.33 in Cartagena's Santa Lucía hospital, at 3.36 kilos (7lb 6.7oz).
Next came Itziar, a baby girl who was the first to be born in the Basque Country at 00.45 in the Araba hospital in the city of Vitoria, brought into the world via Caesarian section and weighing 3.1 kilos (6lb 13.3oz).
