A TEENAGE boy saved his dad's life in Pamplona (Navarra) this week when he collapsed with a heart attack, emergency services in the northern region reveal.
The lad, aged 15, later told police and paramedics that his class at school had taken a first-aid course, so he knew how to perform CPR when he realised his father was not breathing and had no pulse.
By the time the ambulance reached the family home, the man's heart was beating again of its own accord and the medical team was able to take over.
He is believed to have regained consciousness since and is expected to recover.
But paramedics say he is only alive today because of his son's presence of mind and persistence, and his keeping his cool in the crisis.
“This story shows just how vitally important it is to train children and young people in how to deal with high-risk situations,” said a Municipal Police spokesman, who urges schools, clubs and societies to offer first-aid training wherever they can.
