'Style Queen': UK media pours praise on HRH Letizia's elegant attire
27/02/2024
BRITISH media outlets have lauded Spain's Queen Letizia's effortlessly-elegant dress sense over the past few days as she accompanies her husband King Felipe VI to London.
Described as an 'absolute goddess in green' by Hello magazine and as having a 'unique style' by the Daily Mail, HRH Letitizia was shown 'wrapping up warm' in recent photos against chilly winds in the mid-western UK county of Berkshire.
Letizia, 52, and King Felipe VI had travelled to St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle for a thanksgiving service in honour of King Constantine II of Greece, who passed away a year ago in January in his native Athens aged 82.
The Greek Royal family is directly and closely related to those of Britain and Spain – Felipe VI's mother, Queen Sofía, is originally Greek and her father's cousin was Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who was married to the late British Queen Elizabeth II.
HRH Elizabeth II was third cousin to both Prince Philip and to Felipe VI's parents, King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofía – both still living – meaning King Felipe of Spain is a blood relative of Britain's King Charles III, as well as nephew to the late Constantine III.
Felipe VI and Letizia joined Charles III's wife, Queen Camilla, and his nieces Princess Beatrice and Zara Tindall, representing the UK Royal family in light of serious health issues that have left two of its key figureheads out of action.
Charles III is in treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer, and Princess Catherine of Wales is recovering from undefined abdominal surgery, meaning King Charles' son Prince William of Wales is having to split himself between his father, wife and children, and what Royal duties he can fit in between them.
High-street chic and 'gorgeous green'
Queen Letizia of Spain is rarely far from the global media's celebrity and fashion pages, as her elegant and usually-understated style attracts faithful followers – especially when she shops on the high street and her fans can copy her look on a budget.
According to Hello, for Constantine III's thanksgiving service, Letizia 'chose a head-to-toe regal navy outfit' of a 'column dress that fell just below her knees' – custom-designed by upper-end high-street chain Pedro del Hierro, which is found within the cheaper brand store Cortefiel - accompanied by a dark blue cape, a 'midnight-blue clutch' bag, 'pointed-toe kitten heels', and a 'fluffy black scarf' to keep her warm.
Earlier this week, Hello snapped Queen Letizia at a Royal engagement in the Castilla y León city of Salamanca, western Spain, and dubbed her 'a goddess in green'.
She 'ditched her all-black ensemble' from her 'previous public outing' and wore a dress 'that said spring is on its way', reveals Lifestyle writer Katie Daly.
Some of the pieces she wore are from the high street, although if they remain on sale it is likely they will have been snapped up already – as was the case with the €26 top from Zara Letizia wore at the Princess of Asturias Awards a few years ago, which was only available online in sizes S and XS within hours of the photos being released.
Her trademark long beige wool coat from Carolina Herrera was accompanied by 'a gorgeous Persian green dress by Dándara Spain', says Ms Daly, and 'nude kitten heels by Magrit' – an Alicante-province based designer brand and one of Queen Letizia's favourites, which can be found with prices starting at around €180 to €220 a pair or around half of that price in the sales.
HRH Letizia's shoulder bag was in exactly the same shade of green as her dress, and comes from Uterqüe, the higher-end label from the Inditex chain, which owns Zara.
Selfies with 'adoring supporters'
The same dress, which retails at just under €80, attracted enthusiasm from the Daily Mail's fashion and beauty supplement, Femail, which described her as 'rocking springtime chic' and her coat and shoes combined with it as 'further displaying her unique style'.
Reporter Maria Okanrende said the Spanish monarch's wife 'donned a glamorous emerald-green dress' at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Talent Tour in Salamanca, an event organised by the Princess of Girona Foundation, which Letizia and Felipe VI's 18-year-old daughter Leonor presides.
'Waiting fans' who greeted her 'appeared to put [Letizia] in the highest of spirits', and 'the ever-stylish monarch' was later on seen 'taking candid selfies with her adoring supporters'.
