ONE of the motorcyclists killed in a crash in Madrid on Sunday was president Mariano Rajoy's police escort, confirm sources from the Moncloa, the leader's official residence.
A policeman and a 32-year-old woman riding pillion lost their lives when they were hit by a car at about 16.00 yesterday, when the driver attempted to avoid another oncoming vehicle at the crossroads of the C/ María de Molina, the C/ López de Hoyo and the C/ Serrano.
Both bikers were flung clear of their vehicle and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver who caused the crash needed counselling on site.
Madrid Municipal Police confirmed in a tweet that the man who died, Diego Rodríguez, was one of the team of escorts who provides security for Rajoy.
He was not escorting the president at the time of the accident.
A MAN declared dead at his home in the province of Tarragona was on his way to the funeral parlour when he turned out to be alive, according to police sources.
