CROWN Princess Leonor and her sister Sofía will spend the next month in a summer camp in the USA to 'complement their schooling in Spain' at the private Santa María de los Rosales centre and to improve their English.
Direct heiress to the throne Leonor, 12 and the Infanta, or non-Crown Princess, Sofía, 11, will be mixing with other kids of around the same age of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds and their parents – King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia – hope that the experience of a month abroad, speaking a foreign language and making new friends from different countries will broaden their horizons.
Once back from the camp, the location of which has not been disclosed, the princesses will spend part of what is left of their summer in Mallorca, as the Royal family does every year.
Upon their return to school in the Moncloa-Aravaca neighbourhood of Madrid, Sofía will be moving up to the secondary school centre and Leonor, who will be 13 on Hallowe'en, will start her second year of high school.
The Santa María de los Rosales takes in children aged between three and 18, meaning the girls have not had to move schools after finishing their primary education.
Princess Leonor and the Infanta Sofía are pictured here with their paternal grandmother, Queen Sofía, after whom the youngest of the children is named.
