Spain withdraws 14 batches of Durex 'at risk of breakage'
03/08/2018
SPAIN'S ministry of health has withdrawn 14 batches of Durex condoms from sale after being warned by the distribution firm that they are at risk of breakage.
Reckitt Benckiser Healthcare, S.A. reported the latex condoms manufactured at the beginning of 2018 do not comply with in-house durability standards, which stipulate that they must be useable for up to three years once the packet is opened.
They are believed to have failed pressure tests carried out at the end of their three-year shelf life.
Those which the Spanish Agency for Medications and Healthcare Products (AEMPS), part of the ministry, has withdrawn are the Durex Real Feel and Durex Latex-Free, both of which are in boxes of 12.
Those affected have use-by dates of between December 2020 and March 2021.
Any consumer who is concerned should call the free-phone helpline from Spain, 900 300 026.
Distributors, pharmacies and shops are all being notified in writing by AEMPS and further information is available on the manufacturers' website, Durex.es.
AEMPS has instructed retailers to give refunds and to claim back their own expenses from Reckitt Benckiser Healthcare.
