OVER 200 elderly residents have been able to see the Christmas lights in the Galician city of Vigo thanks to a fleet of taxi drivers offering them free lifts.
Some 50 cabbies got together to arrange the en masse transporting of the town's OAPs to the central Porta do Sol square to see the spectacular and gigantic metal tree-shaped sculpture adorned with Christmas decorations and lights, as shown in the above picture taken by Vigo tourist board, and greeted the mayor, Abel Caballero, when they arrived.
Local Police shut the central hub of the city to traffic to allow the long parade of cabbies to get through.
Spokesman for the local taxi drivers' association, Manuel Chorén, said being able to brighten up senior citizens' day – literally – by giving them free rides into town 'filled them with pride'.
Without this kind-hearted gesture, most would have been unable to see their town lit up for the festive season.
Amparo, 91, said seeing Vigo up in Christmas lights was 'well worth it' and that they were 'incomparable with all the others'.
