Pop great Alejandro Sanz to get Hollywood Walk of Fame star
SPANISH pop legend Alejandro Sanz is set to get his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, joining other musical greats such as Alicia Keys, Elvis Costello, Billy Idol, 50 Cent and Muddy Waters.

Although Sanz, 51, forms part of the so-called 'Class of 2020' in Walk of Fame terms, it does not mean his star will necessarily be unveiled next year – in fact, actress Jennifer Lawrence, one of the 'Class of 2018', is still waiting for hers.

But once included in the list, the named star on Hollywood Boulevard is guaranteed.

Along with the other musical artists named, the Walk of Fame 'Class of 2020' includes real-live people such as actresses Julia Roberts (Notting Hill, Erin Brockovich, Pretty Woman) and Octavia Spencer (Gifted, Big Momma's House, The Shape of Water, and the cinema adaptation of Katherine Stockett's novel The Help), actors Chris Hemsworth (Avengers: Endgame, Thor, Men In Black: International), Mahershala Ali (Green Book, True Detective), Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix, Boyz N The Hood, Apocalypse Now), Spike Lee (Malcolm X, She's Gotta Have It, Do the Right Thing), and Swiss-Italian director Lina Wertmüller (Love and Anarchy, The Seduction of Mimi, Swept Away, Seven Beauties) – and also a fictional celebrity, the character of Batman.

TV stars due to grace the Walk of Fame are the late Andy Kaufman, model Cindy Crawford, Burt Ward, Christina Applegate, Terry Crews and Milo Ventimiglia, plus Dave Chappelle and Billy Porter will receive stars for their career in live performance and Susan Stamberg for her work in radio.

Alejandro Sanz is well-known among two generations in Spain, and also in the US, having won Person of the Year at the Latin Grammy Awards in 2017 for his musical career and charity work.

He has been coach on The Voice in Spain, seen on mainstream TV, and is known to non-Latin fans for his duets with Colombian-born rocker Shakira, La Tortura and Te lo Agradezco Pero No.

Albums of Sanz's which have triumphed in the USA include Más (1997) and El Alma Al Aire (2000), and his singles Cuando Nadie Me Ve and No Es Lo Mismo – plus his trademark track Corazón Partío, arguably his most famous – have all been hits in North America.

The photograph of Alejandro Sanz above is from Spain's chart radio, Los 40 Principales – a list and a station he has never been far from in the last 20-plus years.
