Woman missing since 2016 found alive and well
11/05/2020
A MISSING woman not seen in three-and-a-half years has been found safe and well in Galicia, confirm National Police.
The force had reopened the case of Lorena Piteira Espinosa in the last few weeks, partly on the basis that the limited movements of the population during lockdown would make it easier to spot her if she was still alive and in the area.
She was 43, nearly 44, and based in Lugo when her family last had any contact with her – this was back in November 2016.
It took them a whole year after not hearing from her before they decided to report her missing.
Detectives followed up witness reports claiming she had been seen in Santiago de Compostela and also in Camariñas (both in A Coruña province) in 2018, and believed these to be well-founded, but were unable to locate her.
Nobody had seen her since – until now.
It is not clear exactly where Lorena, now 47, was found, or in what conditions, although she is said to be alive and apparently in good physical health.
Police are now trying to piece together the last three-and-a-half years of her life to find out what happened.
A family spokesperson said they had received a call to say she had been traced and was well, but 'did not give any further information'.
“They said they'd tell me more this coming week,” said the spokesperson.
“At present, they told me they were unable to say more – the call was very brief, just to say that they had now found Lorena and she was okay, nothing more for the moment.”
