Lieutenant Elena Gutiérrez, Spain's first female fighter jet pilot
Lieutenant Elena Gutiérrez has become the first woman in Spain to solo pilot a Eurofighter jet for the Spanish Air Force.
She will now pilot the fighter jet from the force's air base in Morón de la Frontera, Seville.
Lieutenant Gutiérrez completed her first solo flight in the fighter jet on December 22nd as part of a Eurofighter conversion course for Ala 11 and Ala 14 air force pilots in the 113th squadron stationed at the Morón air base.
Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, congratulated the lieutenant via a Twitter message today, saying "Overcoming barriers, breaking glass ceilings, moving towards total equality between men and women. Our society has just taken another step along this road".
